Hostels are more traditionally aim to provide accommodation for travellers looking for a competitive price or travelling on a budget. Now hostels have become synonym for young people with mixed culture, sharing their experiences and having a good time. It has become a place to meet new people make friends, party and enjoy.

Living in hostel generally mean sharing room with others, living in dormitory rooms and sleeping on bunk beds etc. They also have collective living areas and kitchen offering the opportunity to mix with people from different cultures. There are heaps of similar accommodations in almost all the cities in New Zealand as theses accommodations are popular with backpackers. Most common of them are YHA (Youth Hostel Association), Beyond Travel, etc. It does help if you have a YHA Membership card and you can access a wide range of discounts.
