Situated in the Upper North Island, the 90 mile beach is the longest beach in New Zealand. It’s actually about 60 miles long. This beach is well-known for its enormous sand dunes and looks a lot like the Sahara Desert. The spectacular white sand beach is a must see for those who adore the sand and sea.

Surfing is also a popular sport here too so for those who love to surf you can stop at Tauroa Point and experience one of the best left-hand surf breaks in the world. Tauroa Point is situated at the southern end of Ninety Mile beach. Or you could try your hand at Sand Surfing, a fantastic, fun adventure for everyone. All you need is a sled which you can hire for around $10. Take your sled and slide down the giant sand dunes. Be prepared for some exhaustion climbing to the top of the dunes but it will be worth it you won’t want to stop.

Some other activities you could enjoy are Quad Biking and Fishing.

It is strongly recommended that you take a guided Coach tour or 4 Wheel Drive if you want to drive on Ninety Mile Beach. A lot of car rental companies will not insure you if you drive onto the beach and not only that but you will easily get stuck in the quicksands like in the picture below.
