Latest Airport News
A bigger and better airport is on its way with a new project to construct a new terminal costing NZ$195 million dollars. The airport is in the development stages of an incorporated Domestic and International terminal. The new terminal will offer extra seating, new cafes, larger passenger lounges and more. The first stage of construction was finished in 2006 with the launch of a new car park building. The project is estimated to be completed by late 2010.

Car Parking
Christchurch airport offers a range of parking options to suits everyone’s needs. There are uncovered short and long-term parking spaces as well as a new multi-level car parking building. There is a drop-off lane at the front of the main terminal building.  You are allowed to park in this area for no more than two minutes and vehicles must not be left unattended. Transfer between Terminals
Both Domestic and International terminals are walking distance and can be accessed from inside. There are also domestic transfer check-in counters in the International Arrivals hall.

Car Hire
Christchurch Airport Passengers can easily book, pick up or drop off a rental vehicle at the international terminal and Domestic Terminals. Rental Companies with desks inside the terminals include Avis, Budget, Hertz, Europcar, Maui Rentals and Thrifty. Recreational Vehicles (RV) are available from Maui. Campervan Rentals are available from Backpacker Campervans and Britz Capervans both located in the international terminal.  

Public Transport

Bus Service: Two Christchurch bus services run from the airport to the city centre, the number 29 via Fendalton and the number 10 via Merivale.  All buses arrive and depart from the front of the main terminal building. Travel time is 30 minutes.

Shuttle buses: Shuttle bus services can be shared and take travellers to their accommodation. Transport to Christchurch city centre is available outside the Domestic and International areas of the terminal building. Travel time is 20-30 minutes to the city centre and costs $15 – $20 per person.  Cost reduces for two or more passengers travelling together.

Taxi: Taxis are available to the city centre and the travel time is 15-20 minutes and costs $30 – $50.

Information and Help Desks
Information and help desks are situated inside the Domestic Terminal and International Arrivals lounge. The staff can assist you with travel information and bookings for Christchurch accommodation, transport and sightseeing tours. Airport Facilities

: Banks with bureau de change facilities as well as Currency Exchange offices are located throughout the Terminal. ATMs can be found throughout the airport.

Communication: Christchurch Airport has wireless hotspots at various locations inside the international and domestic terminals. With the wireless network available this means you can email, go on the internet or access your company’s intranet easily using a handheld computer, Wi-Fi mobile or laptop.
Internet kiosks are also available throughout the airport building.

Eating and drinking: There are various restaurants, cafés and bars located throughout the airport.

Airport Shopping: There are many shops situated throughout the airport, including duty-free, souvenirs shops and Electronics and Footwear.

Lost and Found Property: Items that have been lost and found within the Airport terminal building are kept at the Travel and Information Centre inside the domestic terminal. They can be contacted on +64 (3) 353 7774.

Conference Facilities
Conference and business facilities are available within the airport complex at the International Antarctic Visitors Centre, tel +64 (03) 353 7798 and the Sudima Hotel Grand Chancellor tel +64 (03) 358 3139.

Facilities for children
There is a range of activities for children in and around the airport. These include Antarctic Attraction, Time Zone and Kidzone.

Other facilities
There is a hairdresser located in the domestic terminal, airport bookshop, florist and a pharmacy in the international terminal.

Facilities for Disabled Travellers
Facilities include automatic doors and lifts, wheelchair assistance in the International Terminal, wheelchair-accessible drinking fountains, wheelchair -accessible toilets and showers, as well as Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) with Braille keys. There are also disabled parking spaces in front of the terminals and in the airport car parks. Passengers that need wheelchairs and special help must inform their airline prior to travel.

  1. The Airport PO Box number is actually 14-001.
    There is now a third bus operating – the number 3. It departs Sumner and goes to the airport via Riccarton and Ilam, which can be useful for people visiting Canterbury University.
