Tauranga is located on the North Island of New Zealand and is the biggest City in the western Bay of Plenty region. Tauranga is a coastal city, 205 km south-east of Auckland.
Tauranga lies around a section of the wide Tauranga Harbour. The Harbour is protected from the Pacific Ocean by Matakana Island, an island that is long and flat, 20 kilometres in length.
The population of Tauranga is rapidly growing. It’s gentle climate and coastal location is an attractive destination for retired New Zealanders and a popular tourist spot especially for those that enjoy all year round outdoor activities. Major attractions include recreation and competitive boating, surfing, fishing, kayaking and swimming. It’s also a popular setting for jet-skiing, wind-surfing, water-skiing, parasailing and diving. Dolpin -watching is also a popular attraction where tourists can take a boat trip to see them.
Other attractions here include 50km of stunning beach, reserve and 27km of public walkways around the coastal areas.
In the centre of the town is a small shopping and restaurant area called the Strand. There is a vast range of foods from Kiwi, European, Thai food, Indian, Italian and much more.
