Auckland Lantern Festival

The Auckland Chinese Lantern Festival is one not to be missed. A free event and one of Auckland’s most popular summer events, brings Chinese New Year celebrations to a glowing finale. Be enthralled by hundreds of spectacular outdoor lanterns, including brand new designs from China.

Event highlights

  • Non-stop entertainment with performers from New Zealand and china, as well as crafts, fortune-telling and martial arts displays.
  • 800 year old Rolling Lantern folk dance will take place every night of the festival from South China that was done to scare away the pirates in the old days.
  • Tons of tasty food stalls so you can enjoy and picnic on the grass amidst the glow of hundreds of spectacular outdoor lanterns.
  • A fireworks display will end the festival on Sunday night.

How to get here
Albert Park is situated beside The University of Auckland in the central city and is easy to get to from Victoria, Kitchener, Wellesley and Princes streets.
