Ace Rentals Premium Tourist class cars are late model Toyota Camrys or similar. They can seat up to 5 people plus luggage and come with Radio/Stereo and air-conditioning.

As part of any standard Ace Rental car booking you will receive insurance, unlimited kilometres, GST and 24 hour roadside assistance. The excess on the insurance is $1000 for accidents involving other vehicles and $2500 for single vehicle incidents.

You can view their various collision damage waiver packages on there website. Just let them know upon booking which option you prefer and they can add this to your booking for you.

The cheapest rental car is the Super Saver, a small to medium size vehicle, Manual or automatic, 2/4 door and Radio. See the table for a detailed comparison with four other top rental companies.

Age Requirement

The minimum rental age is 21 years for most of the Car Rental companies, however you can hire a car at Ace Rentals if you aged between 18 -20. The only downside is that you won’t be able to reduce your standard excess charge.

Insurance

Full, standard insurance cover is included in the daily rate. The excess on the insurance is NZ$1000.00 for multi car excess. A single car excess is NZ$2500.00.
Multi and Single Car Excess can be reduced to $100 by paying $NZ13, which includes vehicle theft, single vehicle accidents, tyre and windscreen damage.

  1. I got the full package when I made holiday last month. Really, it’s the best deal. I was able to drive through several different herds of goats and sheep and not worry about any damage done to my car.

    One farmer chased me down and wanted to know how I was going to reimburse him for the dead sheep. I told him to not worry and just call ACE Rental. They had my back.

    Would rent from then again. A+

  2. I rented from them on in april of 2010, it seemed like a good deal until I got back to the States. I received a $35 USD refueling charge despite the fact that I had refueled the car minutes before dropping it off, and when the car was checked in, it was cleared and I was told everything was good. I realize this is not a ton of money, but it was my money, and they just came into my bank account and took it. My emails disputing this charge went unreturned. My bank stated that since it was international, they couldn’t make a claim either.

    I would not rent from them again. And I would advise you not to either.

  3. A coworker and I rented a car from the Auckland (the Strand) location on December 14 and returned it December 19. The car was not ready to pick up when we arrived and processing the rental took much longer than we expected. We left the location only to discover the air conditioning was not working. We returned the car immediately and requested another rental. Again, we experienced the same delay in processing the new rental! We were treated rudely, made to wait without explanation of the wait, and furthermore, were never offered a complimentary upgrade. It appears that this location ONLY cleans and prepares cars when customers arrive to rent them. Each of our cars had to be prepared (cleaned and washed) as if someone else had just returned it. The second car we rented had working air conditioning, but the glovebox was broken. Overall, this was a frustrating experience. I would not recommend this business to ANYONE.

  4. I wouldn’t recommend Ace. I rented from them a year ago and had a good enough experience, including using their online chat feature to change my reservation. This time, after I reserved, they posted a lower rate online so I chatted to get the rate reduced. No luck this time. Contact the local agent, they said. So I e-mailed Auckland Airport Ace. They said they couldn’t change the reservation, that I should cancel and re-book. Catch is that they charge a cancellation fee. By the time I made these multiple contacts, their rate had gone back up. So, I cancelled, paid the cancellation fee, and re-booked alright, this time with Roadtrip Rentals – their rate was better than the momentarily reduced rate from Ace, and NO CANCELLATION CHARGE up to 48hr. before pickup! The trip has yet to be made, so we’ll see how Roadtrip works out. Meanwhile, I won’t be using Ace again!
