If you are travelling with children and you require a car or booster seat then these can be purchased after confirmation for $35.00 per rental plus GST.

Research shows that for a 15 day return to Auckland the cheapest Rental vehicle would cost you NZ$564.18 in winter and NZ$1,173.10 in summer which is quite expensive compared to other rentals like Jucy and Ace Rentals, especially in the summer, however it is cheaper than Avis and Thrifty.   • Budget is very slow to respond if you leave them a query using the online form on their website.
  • If you wish to travel from the North to the South Island you are not permitted to take your Budget rental vehicle on a ferry. You must purchase a Multi-Island Hire.

Age Requirement

To drive a Budget vehicle you must be over 21 years and hold a full driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months.  If you are aged between 21 -25 years, an under-age add-on will apply and will cost $25.00 NZD (plus GST) per day per driver.

Car Insurance

Basic car insurance is Included with an excess of NZ$2750.00 + GST. You can reduce excess by paying a daily premium of NZ$25 including GST, reducing the excess down to NZ$170.00 including GST for standard fleet. Optional insurance upgrades are also available. You can purchase a Budget Driver Protection Package which protects you from any loss or damage to the Budget vehicle plus it can reduce your standard excess by up to 90%.
